So we baked a batch of cookies. And then we ate them. End of story.

Brunch and a Book

We love brunch. Before Charlotte was born it was our weekend ritual.
Wake up late, refreshed, and hungry. Throw on our shoes, and walk in any direction until we stumbled into someplace that had what we needed. But those days we got there only to wait. And wait. And wait somemore. And right before our stomachs started to eat themselves from the inside out our name would be called, we would get seated and then we would wait. Again.

These days we do our best to incorporate Charlotte into our our lives...not change because of her. We like being us, we like getting out and doing things. We like it even more when she's along with us.

So this morning we woke up, albeit much earlier than the pre baby years, put our shoes on and headed out. We don't do brunch as often as we used to, but we get out when it works for us. This morning it worked.

The three of us and our hungry bellies landed at a new place today. The Chicago Diner. We'd been meaning to try it, but had never gotten around to it. Turns out it's vegetarian...almost vegan. Meat substitutes, soy milk, the whole deal. The food was awesome and the staff was great. And because we wake up earlier these days there was no wait.

After brunch we strolled down Broadway. We stopped into a used book store and let C pick out a couple of books.

A great way to start a weeekend.

Charlotte's Web: Rocks, Hawks, Sweets and Sixteen

I'm only one. I know I don't have many years under my belt elastic, or whatever. Apparently there's a lot out there that I have yet to learn, or so I've been told. But I'm pretty sure what's going on up in here isn't normal.
So maybe someone out there on the interwebs can help me out.

Here's a riddle for you: What do rocks (that I can't eat) have to do with sweets, have to do with birds and the legal driving age? It's a wonder I've learned anything around here. Wait, maybe I haven't, maybe all of my mad skillz have been acquired at daycare. be added to my growing list of research topics right along side how to avoid nap time.

Anyway, back the issue at hand. The grown ups around here have been muttering these words lately. All. The. Time.
And, I had to wear the same shirt twice this week. Do they not see the 18 shirts in the closet that have yet to have the tags taken off? C'mon people. Grunge was so 1992.

Apparently there's some big game going on after I go to bed for the night. Why can't I play? I like games. Particularly Peek a boo. Oh and the one where I throw my milk on the floor and say "uh oh" and watch my Mums pick it up. Best. Game. Ever.

I don't want to play a game with rocks and birds anyways. Sounds cruel. They can have this one...I like to pick my battles wisely.

Visit From Oma

This weekend brought something a little extra special. A little extra love.
Oma was here.
And when Oma is here things are different. It's hard to explain. The stress levels go down. Family time becomes all that matters. Troy and I spend more time doing those things that don't come as easy these days, like cooking and running errands.
In general, we spend more time playing. Less time worrying.
But somehow we get more done. Or maybe we just feel more content regardless of how much we get done. Either way, I like it.

St. Pats Day!

Happy St. Patricks Day!!

Oma's here for an extended weekend so we made the most of today. Including a small detour to the emergency vet (all is fine, just some antibiotics). We wore green, saw a green river, and drank a green margarita...maybe 2. I'm sure if we looked hard enough we would even find a green leprechaun hoarding a pot of gold. Or in our case, a pot of happiness.

Peaches is frisky

Downtown was a madhouse, as usual, and only made more so with beautiful March weather, a parade and a 1000 pounds of green dye, We stayed long enough to take it all in and then headed home to enjoy the rest of our evening on the patio. Good company. Good day.

Dinner Dates

Tonight we had a girls night.
With T away our good friend Nicole came over tonight for dinner.
Truth be told, she comes over almost every week just to hang out. I can't express how much this makes our week. Even if just for an hour.

It's nice for me to have some grown up time and be required to say more than "dog", "ball", etc. And it's nice for C to spend time with someone more versed than myself in kid songs (I swear she remembers every nursery rhyme and song from her childhood) and American History (how else will she know who the 23rd president was - school? No comment.).

So when tonight rolled around and our weekly get together landed on the warmest day yet this spring, dinner plans weren't optional. They would involve a Margarita...and milk for those under 25 pounds. And a patio. And sunglasses.

A couple of weeks ago we had another dinner date with Aunt Nicole. But seeing that spring wasn't quite ready to come out and play we had a picnic in our living room....with sushi.

We slept in.
We grocery shopped.
We went for a long walk.
We went to the park.
We snuggled under a quilt and watched Mad Men. (while updating the blog)
We grilled out. (Hello amazing weather.)
We played outside.
We shared a giant cookie.

And....we booked ourselves a vacation. That's right, we did.

Ear Infection + teething = sick day. Again.

Most of our day went something like this.

And this.

But a small part went something like this. After hours quarentined in the house we escaped to the park to bask in the glory of a warm March day.

And to Walgreens to browse the aisles while our prescriptions was being filled. It's an amusement park disguised as a store.

On the Farm

Taken a couple of weeks ago at Oma's farm.
Just a father and his daughter sharing a moment together.
