Tigers

One of the best things about where we live in Chicago is the proximity to so many great things. Case in point, the Lincoln Park Zoo. A free zoo within walking distance that also lies directly across from our farmers market.

I wish I could say that the animals were the only draw but smack in the middle of the zoo, with a perfect white canopy, is a carousel.

See that smile? It disapears when the ride stops and we have to get off. Sister can bring on a full set of tears in 5 seconds flat. It's a gift.

Growing: Belly, Vocabulary & Square Feet

Things are growing around here. My belly for one has moved on from the awkward "put on a few pounds" stage to the "bump". Finding that skirts are my new best friend this season.

Other things are growing as well. Charlotte's vocabulary, although already quite abundant has been picking up a few fun words recently. She's trying her best to work "actually" and "maybe" into anything she says.

Lastly, our house. We moved earlier this month. A whole 2 houses north. In between vacation and a fantastic weekend with friends we (Troy) found time to move a gazillion boxes up not one, not two, but three flights of stairs. After the initial shock to the hamstrings we're enjoying the extra room, new change of scenery, and lots of light.

Texas Trio

We had some company over the weekend to help us celebrate mother's day.  All the way from Texas 3 of our favorite people filled our home and our hearts while we soaked in every ounce of friendship we could squeeze out of the weekend.

We played the role of tourists successfully; Navy Pier, Michigan Avenue, the "Bean", the zoo, afternoon cocktails (and water), and we managed also fit in some grilling out, pedicures and movie night.

A very special weekend that came and went much too fast.

Florida Part II

The thing about vacations is that anything goes. The planning is minimal which renders schedules obsolete and we find ourselves doing the things our hearts crave; giving our minds a much needed break.

We do things because we want to; not because we need to or have to. How often do we get to say that? In my little corner of the world it's few and far between. And let me tell you....if feels fantastic. Like a breath of fresh air. Salty ocean air.

We brush off bedtimes to see to more important things

We do sunset dances

We drink cocktails...or for some of us, mocktails

We live. And we remember that this is what our short lives are all about - enjoying ourselves. Our lives. Our people. And these are my people. All four of them.....

...and we can't wait to meet him or her in early September!

Florida - Part I

A proper vacation is an art form. A delicate balance between relaxing and letting go, and remembering that when it's over you have to return to life; a subtle nagging at the back of your mind. Not enough so that you can't enjoy yourself, but just enough so that you remember not to take a single second for granted. An art form.

And by the end of the week we're professionals.

Daily agenda:
Wake up. Breakfast outside. Beach. Back to house for pool time. Lunch. Nap (for everyone). Pool time. Dinner outside. Beach. Late night pool. Bed

This year our Florida trip was even better than the last. We knew the house, we knew the beach, and it welcomed us back with open arms. We fell right into daily routines and spent more time in the water than out.

We do vacations well.....but we're always up for more practice.
