A family of superheroes...and a villain.

As it turns out, Troy got his superhero Halloween after all. Even more unbelievable is that it took no bribing. Just a small clarification: Wonder Woman is a Amazon princess. Once Charlotte realized she could be both princess and super hero there was no turning back.

Charlotte weighed in on what everyone should be this year. We stepped back, let her drive and enjoyed the ride.

Halloween day of course hosted the worst weather we've had yet this year. Cold and windy. But, as it turns out, snow pants go quite well under Wonder Woman's boots. And an extra blanket on Batgirl is just another cape.

We toughed out the cold for as long as we could. Batgirl and I walked home a little early to hand out candy while Superman and Wonder Woman stopped at all the houses they could before their fingers turned blue.

What an awesome holiday this is. Until next year...

Pumpkin Patch

While we were in Iowa we made a trip to the pumpkin patch.

It was post naptime, pre 4 hour drive, so like anything we made the best of it. Pumpkin patches have come a long way since the Mr. and I were kids. Aside from the obvious, pumpkins, there are bounce houses, bounce pillows, petting zoos, tree houses, games, rides and more. Frankly, it's out of control.

All the same, we had a blast, raised expectations as to what a pumpkin patch really is, bought a couple of overpriced pumpkins, and spent time together.

We're in Iowa this weekend. A light agenda for the few days we are here.

We enjoyed a rare adult evening out with a group of old friends. One of which I hadn't seen in over 15 years. And while we weren't terribly close to one another when we were younger, we had no problem finding common ground as tend to do that. And wine.
Great evening out without kids...where not surprisingly kids were the main topic of conversation.

Church with Grandma and Charlotte tomorrow followed by a trip to the pumpkin patch Monday before heading back home.

Never enough time at the farm. This weekend we marveled at the fall colors. We jumped in leaves and rolled down hills. Charlotte (of course) asked Oma to read bedtime stories and Grace made sure we were all up bright and earlier - would hate to miss a sunrise. Good stuff.

A Perfect Weekend

This kind of day is what I picture in my head when Thursday afternoon rolls around and the weekend can't come soon enough. Generally all hell breaks loose starting Friday evening though and we find ourselves cramming everything we can into the following 2 days.

But today was different. We had no plans. So we let the day evolve. We went to the park. We prepped the yard for winter. We had lunch picnics in the living room.

I enjoy the hectic, jam packed fun weekends. I love seeing the girls smile at gymnastics classes, and birthday parties. I love hosting our favorite groups of people and seeing how they breathe in our girls like a breath of fresh air. I love crazy weekends. But I enjoy these slow going ones just as much.

Weekend with the Woods

We were beyond thrilled to have some of our favorite people in the world visiting over the weekend. I'm sure if we were better hosts we would have planned something, but we aren't so we didn't. The truth is, with four kids four and under anything we do is a bit of a production. Add in that our car only seats 7 (damn captains seats), and the fact that all are in car seats and a trip to go eat dinner suddenly seems like a lot of work. So we stay in.

We watched a lot of movies, made multiple trips to the park and had excuses to cook recipes usually reserved for the holidays.

Lastly, it wouldn't be a cross state visit without sending germs one way or another. Fortunately sickness didn't plague our entire visit.

Looking forward to getting our next visit on the calendar. It's always too far away!
