Family Fun

A text is sent. Something along the lines of "When do we get to see you?"
No less than 30 messages follow while we try to pin down dates that work between our busy schedules. Finally we find one. And then we wait.

The waiting was over this past weekend while we hosted our very dear and sweet family from our neighboring state to the north.

They arrived late on Friday evening. Charlotte was already in bed, but when they arrived I peeked in to find her still awake. I quietly asked her if she wanted to come down and see everyone. And that face? It was worth everything. She jumped out of bed and ran downstairs. A quick chorus of hellos and excited stories and she was tucked back into bed.

The kids all settled downstairs slumber party style.  Upstairs we opened a bottle of wine and settled down on the couch for some good conversation.

It was a short visit but we made the most of it. Saturday we spent the day in the city being tourists complete with lunch at Ed Debevics and a birthday celebration with the worlds smallest ice cream sunday.

A Sunday brunch with a monkey bread family tradition and lazy conversation around a full table. We had a great weekend. It went too quickly. I suspect that soon I'll be sending another text. And so the story goes.

St. Patricks Day

We had our local parade last close to two weeks ago, but it's such a fun day we celebrated twice!

Charlotte woke up to a bathroom that 'that pesky leprechaun' had gotten into. Toilet pater draped all over, and he didn't even manage to flush...instead leaving bright green pee behind. Ugh.

She loved it!

A Very Full Saturday

It was a busy Saturday to say the least.

A parade in celebration of St. Patricks day a couple weeks early.
We walked away with a bucket full of candy and a lot of smiles.

Next was a post parade party at a friend's house. An indoor bouncy house, drinks, snacks and introductions to new people.

Last up was a birthday party for another school friend turning four. Cake, pizza and pin the tail on the Little Pony. Grace finally gave up around 4:30 in my arms, but Charlotte was a trooper and went without a nap.

In other news we have started a new house project. It's a good thing we have extra help. More to come.

Close to a year ago when we moved out here I recall driving past a small park by the house and pointing out what I thought would be an excellent sledding hill. Well, we finally got a chance to try it out!
Lots of smiles, a couple of crashes, lots of giggles while trying to climb up hills and a sled that fit the whole family.
But the best part, the icing on the proverbial cake? It was the look on Charlotte's face after she went down the hill by herself. It was her idea with absolutely no prodding on our end. We gladly handed over the sled, and cheered her on as she tipped it forward. That look....the one she shot back up to us when she got to the bottom of the hill. It was worth everything. Pure pride.
