Remodel Updates

A few updates on the house.

We've got a new beam going into the basement so it's out of commission for the time soon. They had to put in new 5' x 5' concrete footings while also removing the original wood structure beam and replacing it with a steel I-beam.
A lot of work for something that doesn't give us much in the way of satisfaction once done. But what it will do is give us a sense of comfort as we embark on other remodeling projects throughout the house.

We also started the work in the kitchen opening up the walls. Turns out that the plaster and lathe has a metal mesh running through it. So much for tool of choice being sledge hammer. Good thing the mister has every type of saw imaginable.

Lastly, we started demo work in the main level bath. Good-bye peach floor-to-ceiling tile!

Baking

These two would bake cookies everyday if they could. Suffice ti to say that the eating is preferred to the making but their also great about helping along the way.
Charlotte is doing a great job with reading lately and helped me read each step of the recipe and Grace is great about dumping ingredients into the bowl.
Neither of them possesses much patience - that part we're working on.

Those beaters....they are both experts at cleaning them.

Home Renovations

Home renovations have begun.
We may have bitten off a bit more than we can chew at the moment:

Main level bath is in demo
Pantry carpet has been torn up - floors to be refinished
2 walls down to studs in the kitchen
Upstairs vanity started

And now all on hold while we wait for work to start on the main structural beam. Turns out that the beam currently supporting our house is original, but the second story of the house is not. So, a crew is coming in to remove the old wood beam and replace it with a metal "I" beam. This will give us the solid foundation to start all of our projects.

This is the beginning of what I'm sure will be a lengthy but fun making of our home.

Fairy Garden

As it turns out, our new house has a perfect little space for a fairy garden.
Only thing missing is the fairy house.

Leave it to the this amazing Dad to find the supplies around here to make one. Once complete Charlotte will have to decide where it "lives".
