Father's Day

Sitting here tonight back from a fantastic camping weekend with the family. The mister and I are relaxing on the couch with a cocktail in hand.

We celebrated Father's day with friends while camping this weekend. Nothing fancy, just some good quality time spent together uninterrupted.

This guy is amazing. He is hands down the best part of every day. He keeps us grounded, is involved in everything and constantly reminds us (me) to slow down and enjoy this wonderful life we have.

He is everything to this family. We love you Mr. Haigh.

First Camping Trip of the Year

We broke out the tent - a new one this year. Mind you, nothing was actually wrong with the old one, except that it was cursed with the traditional set up structure which meant a minimum of 20 minutes to set up, more if you were attempting to set up the tent in the dark or had little one's "helping".
So the new one promises an "instant" set up. And it comes pretty darn close to delivering. It's all about convenience in this case.

Our inaugural trip of the year was with some great friends from Iowa. Erika has been my best friends since High School - she will most definitely be the one that our girls go to for dirt on their mom one day. It's hard to find friends like this.

I randomly picked a campground midway between Iowa and Illinois. I didn't realize it at the time, but it had all the criteria for a failed trip: no electric on site, no alcohol allowed, no swimming pool/lake, and to top it off an average temperature of 90 degrees for the days we were there. Expectations were low going in.

It ended up being a fantastic weekend though - no doubt due to the company.

In two short days we found time for 2 small hikes (Charlotte's favorite part), painting, bubbles, s'mores, playing in the creek (Grace's favorite part), catching lightening bugs and parent time by the campfire at night (something we rarely get on these trips).

We found a way to stay cool in the shade and/or water, the bugs stayed at bay, and we all found just a bit of reprieve from everyday life.

Back to the real world on Monday.

Cubs Win!

A friend called with an offer of 4 tickets available for the cubs game starting in 3 hours. What could I do but accept.
A call to Troy, arrangements to pick up the girls, and 2 hours 59 minutes later we found ourselves at the intersection of Clark and Sheffield.

This also happened to be Grace's first Cubs game so we managed to find the Clark and get her first game certificate. She wasn't thrilled with the mascot.

2 hot dogs, 4 beers, 1 lemon ice and 2 bottles of water later we wrapped up our afternoon with a Cubs win. They played great, the girls did pretty well considering we were in the sun all afternoon, and the mister and I had a great time!

We weren't quite ready to wrap up our afternoon so we surprised Nicole and Paul and did dinner out with them. Biggest hit may have been their cats which the girls tortured the entire time we were there.  I think C single-handedly fed them an entire bag of treats. Sorry guys.

Dinner was fantastic, and the company was even better.
