Bathroom Vanity

This photo won't mean much to most people, but to us it's huge.
It's the last steps to a fully functioning main level bath. This is the plumbing for our vanity...which is currently sitting in the bathroom but non functioning. Hard to teach good hygiene when a walk to the kitchen sink introduces 27 distractions along the way for two small girls.

Exciting stuff happening here!

Also including a bit of context. This is the vanity that we made. Birch base stained General Finishes "antique walnut" along with a concrete countertop which we made.

Baking in PJs

When it's cold outside there's nothing better than a bit of baked goodness.
Proper baking starts early in the morning so that you have plenty of time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Or in this case banana bread.
The girls are always happy to help. Oddly they disappear during all of the measuring, stirring, and beating. It's as if they have some special super silent alert that lets them know to peak over the counter just as I've poured the last bit of batter into the pan.
It's at this exact moment they know that they can offer to "help" clean up.

Happy Birthday Charlotte!!

Six is easier than five. It took me a bit of time to figure out why, but I think it sits mainly in the fact that so much changes with 5. It's a milestone birthday, a precursor to change. It's Kindergarden, and lost teeth. It's pressure to read, and new routines. It's halfway to double digits. It's all the fingers on one hand.

But here we are at six.
We celebrated a bit in Seattle, followed by a homemade cake (Charlotte's choice) and presents at home.

Seattle Backyard Hiking

Some leftover photos from the backyard hiking excursions we went on.
Color me green with envy....and beautiful firs trees.
Imagine the adventures to be had back here through the woods and streams as a kid. Thank you to our tour guide Violet who is more of an up-and-over trail guide...oppose to sticking to the path. Choose the path less traveled. Always.

Seattle Part 2: Homebound

The second half of our trip to the Northwest we spent at our in-laws beautiful home. Charlotte had a slumber party with her 9 year old cousin (including a 2am snack session with frozen fruit where they were promptly sent back to bed) while Grace bunked with us and loved sharing a room with Mom and Dad.

We hadn't planned much for the post-mountain portion of our trip aside from a trip down to the Pier. This left plenty of time for napping, backyard hiking (seriously) adventures, and random excursions. The trip down to the Pier where we rode the Ferris wheel with a beautiful view of the mountains and a visit to the acquarium was a lot of fun, and when half of the crew was ready to head home we did a shuffle with a couple kids and stayed down there a bit longer with a couple of our older nieces. We paid a trip to the gum wall where we saw gum. So. Much. Gum. We all added a disgusting piece to the wall, promptly sanitized our hands and went on our way.

Last but certainly not least, we celebrated Charlotte's 6th birthday a bit early. Homemade cupcakes, sparklers, and lots of family to sing Happy Birthday. So much fun!

This trip has been amazing and full of family. The kids are getting so big and growing into beautiful people inside and out. Sad that our visits are so few and far between.

Heading home to celebrate a certain nearly-6-year-old's birthday now....

New Years

Celebrating here in Seattle where we get to see the NY ball drop 3 hours early. A big win when celebrating where the kids outnumber the adults!

2017 we've got a lot planned for you....get ready!
