Lake Therapy

Our next adventure as it turned out was a stop at the Dunes on the way home. The water was freezing. Ice cold. Truth be told I've never been to Lake Michigan at a time when the water didn't feel this way, but these girls aren't nearly as whimsy as me.
Sunshine, sand between toes, blue skies, waves crashing, laughter. If I close my eyes I think I can keep this moment frozen forever.

Blueberry Picking 2017

Blueberries, Blueberries, Blueberries, and Pie.
That about sums it up.
A day trip again this year as a result of poor planning and busy schedules. We packed up what we needed the night before and headed out early in the morning around 6:30.
We made it to the farm while it was still cool outside. Picking was slow going until the mister found a secret patch of more mature plants. That, along with a bit of friendly competition with a wager on pie and we soon had our buckets filled.

We had packed our own lunch but stopped into Cranes Pie to buy a few pieces of pie a la mode to round out our picnic.

With lots of sun, buckets of blueberries and full bellies we were back in the car on our way to our next adventure....

Cherry Picking

Sometimes the unplanned adventures are the best.
On the drive back from our weekend in Michigan we took an early turn and stopped at the tart cherry farm we've visited in the past. The sun was out, we already had sunscreen and hats in the car, and we had all day to make our way back home only a couple hours away.
Carpe Diem.

Lake Life

A year and a half ago we moved to our new house. This weekend we celebrated the purchase of a new lakehouse by one of our not-so-new-anymore neighbors.
Here's the thing I didn't realize a year and a half ago. Good neighbors? They are a total game changer.  Not just in a way that makes it nice to wave across the street in the morning as you both pull out of the drive or stop by and say hello when you walk by.
No, these neighbors are gold. The gold that you buy in bars and store away someplace safe and take good care of.
In short we rely on them. Our kids adore these families, and they have welcomed us with open arms into their close circle.
The best part though...for our girls this introduces an entire village of strong independent amazing women for them to see in action. To lean from. To grow from.

Amazing weekend with neighbors turned friends. Lots of smiles, good music, fun in the water and my first time paddle-boarding. I'm hooked.

Oh That Face

This face makes a daily appearance and it's one I've wanted to capture for some time. It flees quickly. Not to say that the mood itself is short-lived (unfortunately). But this face quickly disappears into an all out cry. Usually head down, hair covering her face and no eye contact. And surely not something she'll pose into a camera for. It's her comfort zone in situations where things haven't gone as she was expecting. I grabbed this one when she wasn't expecting.
We're working on other ways of channelling disappointment, anger, frustration....and will be for the next 15 years, but none of them produce the same sort of feeling through a photo.
Man I love her to pieces. Every little scowling bit of her.

4th of July Part 2

And the 4th of July leftovers.
Those fireworks. Absolutely amazing. By far one of the best shows I can remember seeing.

Also a bit of proof that the opportunity for memories lie in all places. While waiting for the fireworks to begin the pesky bugs were having their way with us so we stepped inside until minutes before the show. In the library, Grace had a nearly first hand account of "Miss Suzy" and her adventure an old favorite from the grandkids who grew up listening to the same rendition.

So much fun. Always sad to say goodbye, but all the more fun to look forward to our next bit up fun in the North.
